Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My passion for photography peaked around 2012. I had been expressing interest in buying a camera, so my dad was willing to pass down his treasured Nikon D40x. At that same time, I decided to download the Instagram app to see what it was about, which seemed like an app that I can just post my pics on. I was happy with that! Then (even more exciting), I found other Boston folks through @igersboston and hashtags, realizing Instagram isn’t just for posting pics, but it can be a social connector as well – you can connect with local people who love to do the same thing – street photography!
When did you realize your passion for photography?
I can honestly say that I didn’t notice the beauty of Boston until I started my street photography around the city. How could I grow up here and not notice how striking simple things around the city can look, especially in rain and snow?! …And to appreciate the architecture of some of the old buildings downtown! And the way the Weeping Willow trees cascade in the Public Garden!
Photography to me is enjoyable, fun, allows me to be creative (find new angles, use different lenses, etc.), and can be double the fun when casually hanging out and shooting with other photographers around the city. Being part of the local igers community is extremely motivating and inspiring!
What is your advice to aspiring photographers on Instagram?
My advice to aspiring photographers is to continue shooting what you love as much as possible! Capture what you love seeing. Keep your camera on your shoulder or in your bag because you’ll never know when you’ll see something that catches your eye!
