Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up in the Boston area and currently live in Cambridge. I love being an urbanite and taking advantage of the visual landscape here. I’m a lawyer, but doing photography on a freelance basis as well as for myself is a great outlet and counterbalance.
When did you realize your passion for photography?
I’ve always enjoyed photography and remember taking pictures on a cheap film camera when I was very young. I loved documenting everything around me, whether it was my friends or an interesting landscape. The pictures weren’t necessarily “good”, but they were of my own making, which was thrilling. Now, photography is part of my daily life. I almost always have a camera with me and don’t quite feel like myself if I’ve gone too long without shooting.
What is your advice to aspiring photographers on Instagram?
Don’t only post the pictures that you think will get the most comments or likes. Once you start chasing that kind of feedback, it can be creatively stifling. If something is interesting to you, it has inherent value. Seeking recognition before personal value means you will always be pleasing someone else, and that’s no fun.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Photography is a process. Consume as much of it as you can and spend time developing your own voice. Above all else, be humble and kind.
