Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Massachusetts and currently live in Boston, where I returned in 2013 after living for almost 10 years primarily on the west coast of the United States (in Arizona and Portland, Oregon…which is one of my favorite cities next to Boston). I’m a civil engineer by training and work as an Owner’s Representative/Project Manager for construction projects. My two passions are traveling (the wanderlust is inherited from my grandmother, who travelled the world the last 20 or so years of her life) and more recently, photography.
When did you realize your passion for photography?
About two years ago – I decided to take an intro to photography class at the Boston MFA and found how fun and challenging it can be. I had an old DSLR camera and a dear friend of mine asked if I could shoot a family wedding and that was the catalyst for getting some new gear and to force myself to not shoot in “auto”. I went on a photography binge – shooting almost every day and at any/all family events to be ready for their event. The wedding was a great experience and since then I’ve been focused primarily on landscapes, local city/night shooting and some nature photography (which requires a great amount of patience). Photography has become an escape for me and was a seamless fit with my desire to see new and different places (my husband and I are weekend warriors –we try to travel as much as feasibly possible).
What is your advice to aspiring photographers on Instagram?
To be yourself and get involved – attend local meet ups and be genuinely supportive of others on the app. At the risk of being uber cliché, it is really amazing how much Instagram has opened up my world. I’ve connected with some incredibly interesting, talented and kind people from all over the world and have been fortunate to meet some fantastic local photographers in person who I now consider friends. The “community first” and incredibly supportive mindset was nothing I would’ve imagined when I upload my first shot!
Anything else you’d like to share?
Just how appreciative I am of how supportive the IG community is – making connections with people from all ages and backgrounds on such a global scale and especially with those our great city of Boston, is incredible. Thank you to you, Javi and the other fantastic moderators at IgersBoston for all of the hard work and showing a off of our beautiful City and also bringing us together in person!! It truly is an awesome and supportive hub.
