Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is Curtis and I am a filmmaker and photographer from Boston. There are many things I enjoy, but in the past few years I have become especially passionate about photography. Along with my interest in taking photos, I am also a Producer and Actor for video and films in the New England area. I primarily work with Shoot the Moon Films, which is an independent Production Company that I co-founded with a friend. However when I am not working on films, I am almost always found with my camera – either hiking or camping in the woods or taking a day trip to explore.
When did you realize your passion for photography?
My interest in photography started about four years ago when I joined Instagram and set out to share moments that I thought were beautiful. I originally only had the intention to share my photos with friends, but when I started getting support from people I did not know, it became a reason for me to keep sharing. After a few years I found that I enjoyed taking photos of many things, (landscapes, sunsets, silhouettes, skylines, etc.), but one thing I always try to do is take photos that people can appreciate for a long time. I also have to admit that my passion for photography grew because of the support and encouragement I was getting from friends and complete strangers. It was wonderful to know that people enjoyed seeing my photography and that was a great source of confidence.
What is your advice to aspiring photographers on Instagram?
You have to start somewhere. Grab a camera, (any kind), and get out there. Take photos of what you think is beautiful, what you want to remember, and/or what you want to share. It’s important that you enjoy the process and encourage yourself to try new things. Find inspiration from other people and then use it to find your own style. Collaboration with friends and other photographers is also a great thing. I’ve found that the local Instagram meet ups have always been great.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Just want to say “Thank you” to all of my friends and people who support my photography. I always appreciate the support, “likes”, comments on my photos. There are so many truly talented people on Instagram and I follow many of them. I always enjoy seeing my fellow photographer’s work and have enjoyed meeting many of you guys along the way. Looking forward to more!
